Florence Nanteza has a strong affinity for wellness and herbal medication and believes that plants play a vital role in our daily lives. She studied with a renowned local traditional medicine clinic in Masaka to gain experience and knowledge in the field of herbal medicine. Her artwork is a manifestation of childhood memories and dreams that she fuses with her herbal medicine knowledge. This approach has influenced the materiality and technicality of her experiments with collages using plant materials. Nanteza’s subliminal paintings invite the viewer to remember with her their own memories and to relive their own dreams through healing imagery.
Mati Jhurry’s practice concerns the tension between exoticism and the exotified; the labour and politics involved in selling an escapist fantasy, the performativity within hospitality and the commodification of care under globalized realities. Mati currently practices in Mauritius and makes art through performance, investigation, and turns to video, sculpture and collaborative practices in search of new narratives of decolonisation.
