Katende Julius is a conceptualist, ceramist, painter, sculptor and installation artist. He has done several exhibitions both locally and internationally. He is a vegetarian by birth and loves nature. He practices philosophy which he believes will solve the problems of this world since the world is full of philosophy.
During his 2014 residency at 32° East, Katende collaborated with fellow artist-in-residence, Rebecca Davies on a series of artworks in key public spaces in Masaka, a town and district two hours South of Uganda’s capital city, Kampala. Katende is originally from Masaka and wanted to produce a series of works that engaged the public and encouraged his home town to look at Masaka in ways they hadn’t before.
