KLA ART ’24

KLA ART is Kampala’s free contemporary art festival produced by 32° East. The theme of the fifth edition of the festival, KLA ART ’24 is Care Instructions, envisioning our cultural heritage as a series of instructions that we have received on other ways to live. Artists will be supported with the budget and connections they need, for works that spur us all to imagine how older ways of knowing and being can provide us with new visions for an uncertain future. The 2024 Edition is supported by Newcastle University, British Council, and the Prince Claus Fund.

AC Zine Club

AC Zine Club is a series of zine-making sessions on organising towards a better world. The club takes place simultaneously in 4 physical locations as well as online. AC Zine Club has been meeting around Tending the Soil by Ricardo Levins Morales to consider/reflect/study 8 lessons for organising, and translate them to the socio-political contexts in which we reside. Through zine-making and digital and physical gathering, we aim to create space for deep consideration of some of the struggles we face, what tactics and strategies we can build on, where connections can be made across geographies and the role of art in organising.

Artists in Residence

Flexible in format, our residencies are focused on assisting an artist to develop into the next stage of their career. This can include the development of a concept, pushing the limits of their respective mediums and/or intensive research.
