Abias Muhumuza

Abias Muhumuza devoted his residency to developing a new artistic style. From January to March 2017, Abias produced 12 paintings ranging from experiments to finished products. In his experiments, he incorporated new media such as newspaper clippings, leaves and cloth offcuts to explore texture and three-dimensionality on canvas. He shifted his style of painting from standard portraiture to developing a set of whimsical figurines that explore raw sexuality. In all, Abias developed a stronger personal artistic voice in defining what he chose to capture and how.
