Edgar Kanyike

“Kanyike Edgar is an Artist and Youth worker born and raised in Kampala, Uganda.
He has dedicated his life to building his immediate communities through contemporary art and youth development. Through his skills, talents and hard work, he has acquired training, exhibitions, publications and several awards in photography and video art and African contemporary dance. He has been privileged a part of several prominent organizations and projects like 32°East, Soul-Xpressions NGO Uganda, Uganda Press Photo Awards, East African Biennale Tanzania, The Africa Mashariki Dance (AMDA) institutions of East Africa and Brave Kids, Brave Youth Project Poland, Globalab partnership projects of EU and African countries and Age of Migration partnership projects of EU and African countries and many more.”

Edgar Kanyike’s KLA ART ‘21 project invited the audience on his journey to find joy in his surroundings, and his exploration of the spaces that people create in the ordinary, that get them into the zone – a place where they find excitement, peace, flow, and transcendence from the everyday. Through sound, photography and dance, Kanyike used an open studio format to bear witness to how art lives in people in the city and share how his own identity as an artist is inseparable from the community around him
