Eria Nsubuga ‘Sane’

Eria ‘Sane’ Nsubuga graduated from Makerere University in 2008 with a master’s degree in sculpture from the Margaret Trowell School of Industrial and Fine Arts. He currently lectures at the Department of Art and Design at the Ugandan Christian University in Mukono and practices in painting, illustration and sculpture. Sane’s first solo exhibition took place at AKA Gallery in 2002. Since then he has had several successive solo exhibitions in Kampala including AKA Gallery, Afriart Gallery and Alliance Francaise. Sane has exhibited at the KLA ART 012. 

 

Sane completed a residency at 32° East between January and August 2013. During his residency, he explored a project in drawing, painting, and animation that was titled Abanene (The Big Ones). The project touched on the African ideas and perceptions of power, weight and fatness, in other words, those who have too much.
