Natnael Ashebir

Natnael Ashebir merges form in a meditative exploration of layers of life and inwardness. He uses a variety of media, including painting, drawing, digital art and photography. He explores urbanization and social structure in an immersive experience of time and space. His work achieves spontaneity through the forms, color and texture that are reassembled and juxtaposed to create complex images and imaginations about urbanization’s weight. Natnael Ashebir was born in 1995 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia where he works and lives. In 2021 he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from the Alle School of Fine Art and Design in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Natnael Ashebir was an Artist in Residency at 32° East in 2023. During his time there, he created a series of paintings as part of his “Layers of Life” collection which he calls his “unorthodox archive” of paintings that layer together archival images and present-day experiences.
