Darren Akoragye is a self-taught Ugandan visual artist working with ink, watercolour paints, collage and digital art. Akoragye is inspired by indigeneity, in particular Africanness. She is drawn to historical practices of scarring and marking the skin, echoes of the landscape around us in our features and the evidence of these histories we carry in and on our bodies. Her African-inspired NFT collections, The Alkebulan Faces (2021), was followed up by her first solo exhibition at Kardamom and Koffee, in Kampala in July, 2022.
During her residency at 32° East, Akoragye explored the combination of watercolor paints, collage, and digital mediums. She also worked with linocut print making on fabric and canvas.
