Sandra Wauye

Sandra Wauye is a visual artist who mainly works as an oil painter and gouache illustrator. She trained as a civil engineer and worked professionally for a few years before dipping both feet into art and has been painting for the last two years. Sandra is a self-taught painter whose love for art was mainly sparked and encouraged by her father. Her works embody the African culture and she mainly explores the themes of fragility and resilience. Her works have been featured at the National Museums of Kenya Affordable Art show 2022, the Pink Flame emerging women artists’ exhibition 2022 and the Manjano art exhibition by GoDown Arts Centre.

“I’ve never worked with such large canvases before. Being here has made me bolder in my use of colour, exploring multiple subjects, and I’ve been getting a lot of insight from my fellow residents.” Sandra Wauye during her residency at 32° East
